I Love Dogs Best......

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Tq0GryEsPs&feature=player_embedded

I swear, towards the end I thought this dog was going to fall asleep.

WET

My fancy dancy dancing in the rain rain-gage is reading almost 2 1/2 inches. Yesterday morning at 8 AM, I emptied almost 2 inches out of it. "They" say we might get another 2 to 3 inches today. Really exciting stuff huh?

I don't care what day it is, I'll be boring.

7/29/09

Another rainy day. Guess I'll have to set up a droplight to work on the last two (not really true) windows because I haven't rewired that part of the basement yet. Also have to find the leak in the lawnmower tank that drained into the cellar two days ago and ruined a night of sleep for us. What a nasty stink that was all night long.

I'm feeling MONDAY today.

Don't miss my new NBC plug to the left. I can't help it, I love how Shatner performs this. This was on You Tube all yesterday morning traveling like wildfire around the blogs until NBC stepped in and pulled it.

Monday Model Malady

Yesterday afternoon before having any beers I went over to "The Bar" to see if we could tighten the main sheet on the model of Shamrock V. We were not happy with the shape of the sail. I had been in contact with the model company in Port Townsend, WA who directed me to the Dominican Republic where the model was assembled. Dennis (strong French accent) suggested try moving the mast forward, I told him I had and it didn't work. ................................................................................................................................................
.......................................I HATE TYPING...............I need way to much time to tell a story... so

I kinda fixed it but broke the main sheet traveler , you'd never know it if I didn't point it out. I got some of the shape a little better then Ken said screw it. Lets drink beer!

And the Smallest Window in My Life

I just "love" time off, ........from ~having~ to make money!

The Biggest Window In My Life

With help from Ken Campbell I got the window up on the ledge a day or two ago. I rolled it into place and shimmy lifted it up to it's present height so I could mount the attachment brackets. Using nails as stops I slowly shimmied it into the slot. I was doing really good on my own until Bic came along and made it much easier just having a hand keeping it from falling one way or the other. We got'er done!

Digging In....

A beautiful cool Monday morning and my objective, remove, haul to the dump, clean and prep, size new wood for the 4 remaining rusty steel windows you see here.
Getting started, sawzall, 20 oz. claw hammer, large crow bar, chipping hammer and gumption.

All the windows out and taken away forever and ever.

Didn't quite get all the new wood in. That's OK today I'll finish that and with some mortar repair at the base of all these windows they should be ready for the windows to slip in. If not, they will be good to go for some plastic if the weather turns wet, which it might.

A Week For Me

This weekend I started gathering all the mahogany that has ended up in just about every corner. A lot of it is still usable but most is small pieces that would be good for crafty kind of work, something I don't take the time to do. Anyway I've needed a set of shelves to put all the shit I accumulate somewhere, and I still have some wide mahogany that needs a home till next winter, so, I started building me that set of shelves/woodrack.
But today I tear into the basement windows full bore. Hack. Cut. Pry. Smash. Haul.

7/17/09

It's Finished!.....Ya Right.........

All these little pieces needed to be made up because I'm really lousy at making extra moulding.

Today I rehung the doors now that they have glass in them, I know it's hard to tell but it's an artique glass that Bic cut to fit. All those little, little pieces went all around the mirror edges (yes I had to move every glass and bottle) and a little baseboard around the posts.

I installed the last skeleton key locks on the doors and cut in the strike plates as Ken showed up and we started drinking......................at his bar!

OK the unfinished part, that's on Wednesday, the cabinet guys are coming back to change all the hinges to push to open hinges and install brass inserts for all the skeleton key holes. Also there is one place under the bar that has to get covered with stained wood to match the rest or the bar ( that's what I'll do while I harass the cabinet guys to do a good job). HA

Here's a really lousy picture of my deers of yesterday. You know, the ones that listened to my deep discussion about how safe they are here? That's moma to the right, babies front and center and who knows those other two could be last years twins to the same moma. She does look a little haggard.

No Deers Here

Yacking To Big Ears

Sorry! Blogger didn't want me to upload the pictures and I don't have the time to load up the video.
The twins came for a visit while I was working in the shop. I had been working inside and had to come out to cut a piece and they were 10 feet from the garage door with mom just behind them. Hello "I said" and mom twitched her tail and the babies moved to her. They stood there, just 15 feet from me and listened while I talked to them. I told them they were safe here and please do visit often. I knew I would never make it to the camera and have them still be there so I said, OK I have to cut this piece now, cover your ears". When the saw screamed the little ones booked it to the woods edge but mom just stood there for awhile looking at me and then slowly meandered back to her babes. There were two other deer there and they all just listened to me talk to them every time I came back to cut a piece which went on for at least a half hour. They seemed comfortable with me.

This Makes A Lot Of Sense To Me

“When you think of news as a business, except in very unusual circumstances, the sources never got paid. So the news was always free, it was the reporting of it that cost…."

"And that’s what Winer is trying to do when he reminds us that the important people in news are the sources and witnesses, who can now publish and broadcast what they know. The question journalists must ask, again, is how they add value to that. Of course, journalists can add much: reporting, curating, vetting, correcting, illustrating, giving context, writing narrative. And, of course, I’m all in favor of having journalists; I’m teaching them. But what’s hard to face is that the news can go on without them. They’re the ones who need to figure out how to make themselves needed. They can and they will but they can no longer simply rest on the press and its myths."

Health Care (or lack of) In Our Country

"With almost 20 years inside tText Colorhe health insurance industry, Wendell Potter saw for-profit insurers hijack our health care system and put profits before patients. Now, he speaks with Bill Moyers about how those companies Text Colorare standing in the way of health care reform".

Please listen to ....Wendell Potter... It's a long, very frank and informative video that turns my stomach on Healthcare Insurance Company's and all the politicians and pundits who would fight to stop a government run health care system. He lets us know that Michael Moore "had" to be shown as a radical with a "Hollywood" label so all the facts would be looked at with possible fantasy. He admits that the movie Sicko was accurate. If you have time.....check this out too

What's really nice about this site and interview is you can read the transcript just below the video, which sure did help my simple mind.

Our First Set Of Twins and A Portico To Beat The Band

Caught these little guys romping around the yard until momma moved them away from the house.
We took a drive down to Sweetwater, TN to see the horse farm of Ken Campbell. We heard he was building a new house at the farm but had no idea he was really building a mountain lodge, overlooking the horse farm.
Check out this portico. He had these fir logs brought in from somewhere in the northwest. Ken don't screw around, when he has an idea he makes it happen, just like the bar I built him.
Hmm....we had a short talk about the spiral staircase going in the greatroom. That's the whole three story front of that building, open all the way to the top. Hmm......

Palin Salad

I just couldn't help but want Text Colorto be a part of the feeding frenzy of Sarah Palin. I'm not very good at arguing or remembering facts as most of you can probably guess by now, but I read and hunt down the news alot of my spare time. It all goes in my simple mind.....it's just really tough for me to get it out at a keyboard. Below is some Sarah Palin Salad spewing from her mouth from her opening words introducing Ronald Reagan's oldest son Micheal at the Alaska center for the Preforming Arts(mind boggling at the very least) but one of my favorites. The parenthesis are from fellow blogger AKMudflats who was present. The whole very long story is here.

(I give you Sarah Salad)
So Ronald Reagan spoke to us then with us here in our hearts is where he reached us, and that’s where he won the arguments and then, this was, this was the good part, we the American people through him, we imposed our will on Washington, and that is the way it’s supposed to be.
(I think that sentence may get the Word Salad award.)

Our government is supposed to be working for us, we are not to be working for our government. It’s our will to be imposed on them. (applause) He captured our hearts so he could affect positive change by what he did. He focused on our kids, on our children, on their future, on the future of America. And when he fought socialism and any sort of tyranny that he knew would ruin us, he stood strong on his knowing that the framework through which he believed that positive change that framework for our kids, it was freedom.
(Wait…..no….maybe it was that one)

Today the things that some in Washington would do to take away our freedoms, it’s absolutely astounding, and we would do so well to look back on those Reagan years as he championed the cause for freedom and then he lived it out as our president - cheerfully, persistently and unapologetically. Reagan knew that real change and real change requiring shaking things up and maybe takin’ off the entrenched interest thwarting the will of the people with their ignoring of our concerns about future peril caused by selfish short-sighted advocacy for growing government and digging more debt, and taking away individual and state’s rights and hampering opportunity to responsibly develop our resources, and coddling those who would seek to harm America and her allies.
(Nope. It’s definitely THAT one!)

The Hogs Head Bar?

Friday night at about six I left the Campbell's with the last of my tools......... Saturday afternoon Bic'n'I and some friends arrived back by boat on our beloved "Malihini".....

The bar was happening and going full boar........that's the owner, all the way to the left where two nights before "I" sat and had the first beer at that bar. I deserved that, and he agreed.

I was sitting at that chair, in a daze...... Wow!

I wish you all who have watched this happen could have been there too.......

Lookie there.....next winter I get to finish out that room with the pool table......

The owner asked me for you all to help come up with a name for this bar. We sat around laughing and coming up with names. I'm going to give him all my pictures and videos so he can get them edited into a movie or something....I don't know.

Anyway, any suggestions?

Wednesday Night Update

All the crown moulding is on....all the doors and drawers are in....no glass in the doors or oval as yet......the finished bar top comes tomorrow.....the baseboard will get finished tomorrow....all the door hardware has to be installed....all the door strike plates have to be cut and chiseled to fit......the ceiling and sheet rock painters are coming Friday.....I forgot my camera at the job.........

Thursday morning truth.......

I didn't make enough crown moulding so I had to scab and quickly make it LOOK done.

Two of the doors (at the bar) are slightly warped and look like total shit.

Haven't even bought or ordered any handles for the doors and drawers and the fridge and ice maker HAVE to have handles on before the wood overlay gets put on.

I have to go out of town to get glass for the oval and then bring it to where it can be cut to oval, then properly mount the dang thing.

The owner called last night....I didn't answer for the first time.

I hate rushing anything, expecially a job that has taken this long.
