Toot Toot...............Waa-ooh- gaa!!........can you here that horn?

I think I did a pretty good job of being creative, different,
yet so very minimal, while maintaining a small degree of curious interest.....

The Nook and the mantle...

The nook will house all the electronics and a custom stained glass by Bic, which will be back lit with tube lights. I have a sketch on the wall, of what I think I'll do with the mantle. Decisions, decisions.

Air Breathing JELLY FISH Attack

These pics were taken just this morning before I cleaned up, after 3 1/2 hours of sanding, chiseling and all around do da. I think all the dust in the air that floated out the windows sparked some kind of crazy natural event so close to the lake.
The open space will be two matching 2 ft. wide glass cabinets with mirrored back with glass shelfs, left and right. In the middle will be mirror and more glass shelfs with an ogee edge on all the shelfs. Granite countertop with tiled backsplash will wrap around under the bar also. The entrance to the bar will be to the far right. The bar itself will be starting at about that lightswitch all the way to the left and will curve out into the room and end over by the door. And that's where I think something started to go weird.
In this picture below if you ignore how messy the room seems to be, you'll notice a haze of sorts near the doorway. I thought nothing of it....BUT THEN.........they came in.........

Update at bar.....coming soon!

Blogger screwed up the picture, anyway, thats the Sicilian town my mother was born in. Lot's of family!

Sure have been busy lately. With the bar job increasing to about double, spring ready to pop so the lawns need raking and pre-emergent fertilizer [kill the weeds before they germinate] along with new communications with family in Sicily and my nephew in Antigua possibly getting on a mega-yacht as engineer I haven't had the spark to do any creative blogging.

The owner of the bar job has requested another 20 foot section of arches to define the pool table room and create a hallway of sorts with these arches. Also the 20ft by 20ft pool room needs wainscoting to match all the panels I'm doing in the bar, with a shelf for drinks. The ceiling, he wants coffered with the same mahogany, outlining the pool table with a custom built pool table light with stained glass by Bic. She is also doing a stained glass oval for the nook in the bar area. Seeing how the pool room is adjacent to the bar, the hallway and all trim to the different rooms should all match with wainscoting and moulding. I might get this all done by the end of the year, because I have other boat commitments and his next door neighbor needs a set of stairs. And he's all OK with that!!!!!!!!

It was but a year ago that I created three new lawns around the house, now I must maintain them!

We've been invited to Sicily with a house to stay in [not happening soon] and hopefully some cousins will come here this summer to visit for the Bonoroo Concert. I've been to Italy 3 times, and let me tell you how much I love that country and people!!!!!

And my sailing nephew seems to be doing OK for himself in Antigua walking in the footsteps of his uncle.

A Glass Post

Bic fired up some glass this weekend playing with her new toy, the kiln. Looks like if I make her wood hearts, I'll be getting glass valentines in return. That's a good deal.
She's still learning the tricks of heating glass to 1200 degrees or so, notice the air bubbles, that's from the glue, she used a tad too much.

My Heart Of Wood

Since I made Bic a wooden heart for Valentines, [I can't remember how many years ago], she demands [with a sweet smile] that every year I make her a wood heart, something different each year. Easy enough, and a true pleasure. Last year for my Valentine I had a clever streak run through me and I made her this.

This year, it stayed quite simple.
Happy Valentines Day.........Make, your valentine something, it can last forever.

Shamrock V...For Sale or Charter

The on deck dining table of Shamrock V. I put a lot of hours into this when I was in England. Now me being a carpenter and you've seen a little of what I do, you might think gee that doesn't look to tough for Mic. Well, I'm the guy that had to make it sit level, straight and very strong. Those two stainless steel posts are screwed into deck inserts that had to be machined at an angle [yacht decks are'nt flat] so when tightened they fit the brackets under the table with large threaded brackets. It all had to be "right on" as we'd say. It ended up being a quite a challenge.

Shamrock V is for sale at the bargain price of 15 million dollars'

Feeling A Little Lightheaded

I had a ton of weight taken off my shoulders yesterday by the owner of the bar I'm building. We had talked about finishing by the end of March so when the weather warmed the construction would be gone. Well, I knew I'd never be able to get it all done maintaining the quality of the work, so I had a couple aces up my sleeve that I was waiting for the end of this month to pull. I paid a very exuberant retainer fee to Phrankie Bondo to hang in there and wait till March when if needed he would come out here from Calif. and help me finish up the cabinets, the fireplace mantle, and the actual bar itself. I also have on retainer a local friend who designed his own bar/kitchen and had me build it for him. Lots of glass and out of the box thinking. He could be in charge of ordering and picking all hardware, custom cut mirrors, glass shelves, granite counters, wine cooler, ice machine, fridge, locking cabinets, brass foot rail, bla bla bla ...bla bla.

The owner told me yesterday that he is very pleased with what he is seeing and he changed his mind and wants me to take all the time I need to do whatever and however I want to do it. He said.."I don't care if you take all summer, or if you only feel like working 10 hours a week, I want YOU to finish this room, you've started a painting so you finish it"

He also told me that he honestly doesn't see a lot of bang for his buck so far, but he's still willing to let it all play out to the finish. Oh, and we talked about next winter with more arches and wainscoting for the pool table room.

So this has really taken the pressure off, and I get to build a truly one of a kind room. I'm already looking for a scale model of "Shamrock V" to set on the mantle so he can have a story of the guy who built this room used to work on that boat. He wants me to hunt the right model down. I found one at $1400 I liked, but I'll keep looking.

Phase Two, The Walls, Coming Soon.

This is about 3/4s of phase two, covering all the walls. Still got over the mantle, a little cubby and a few fake arches.

Sure has been cold lately, I'm glad we'll be having some 60 degree days this weekend. It should spark me into mulling over some plans of some outside project. Actually, better to FINSH some outside projects. I noticed yesterday that the UPS truck apparently ran over the unfinished edge of the layed stone in the park and cracked some rocks. I never finished putting a border edge. Oh well!

No evening fires this weekend I guess.

Pic-less Post

Did major upgrades to my shop this weekend. This last project, the arches, made me realize the shops works fine, just the way it's layed out although the wiring was a mess and I was forever unplugging and plugging extension chords. I totally rewired the whole shop and more. I have light swithces now..unbelievable, I've been plugging in my lights there for two years. Every major powertool is plugged in and ready to go. I feel good!
