Another year of the twenty first century. Boy they do keep flying by ehh? Tonight at 11:55 seven years ago, the year the computers were supposed to CRASH, Bic and I lit a final cigarette. That had been the last puff of tabacco that I have had. Bic had a little cheat while I was working in England that winter, I think she had one or two and then came to her senses. Quiting cigs was tough, and still to this day there are times when my brain tells me, ohh a cigarette would taste so good right now. I know someone who had quit for 14 years, and still that piece of the brain would taunt her. I still have spent most of my years smoking. OK THIS IS BORING.
HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY NEW YEAR

With the company of good family or friends.

No Fire Permit...

So on friday afternoon I call for a fire permit [thats all I got to do is call in] so I can have a jolly "Christmass Flame" burning all weekend. [they issue weekend permits] Well figurin it was the friday before Christmass [NOT Christmass Eve] they all left early and did not answer the phone. So being the law abiding citizen I am, No Christmass Brush Burning For Me !!!

I call this pile....The Popular Pyro Place Poplar Pile.
It's all young poplar....Burn it baby...burn it.

I call these two....The Close Ones

I call this one ...The Pucker Pile

There's a mass of thorns, all around sharp dangerous spikes, and just brambly all stuck together vines, this one really sucked!!!

I call these ....The Down Unders

Not sure if you can tell but theres two piles on the left and one right in front to the right, which is another of those pucker %uckers. [sorry]

It's a battle,... I Will Win!

Just need some time and a bunch of fire permits.

There just doesn't seem to be anything in my mind today in regards to posting a blog. I was planning on getting the outside trim to a good stopping point before the real winter weather comes, then break out the new chainsaw and go to town downing trees and burning for a couple of weeks. Two weeks would put a big dent in that project. The temps are so mild, some of the trees are showing buds, and the daffodils are breaking ground. Bic had another idea which we really should get at, get a dumpster parked out back so we can get all the old 3/8 sheetrock out of the upstairs and the rest of the crap we got lying around. The only drawback to that is, I don't want to pull out any old insulation, this time of year. I priced new windows for the upstairs,
$3400,00 . I'd rather wait till the other side of the roof and dormers are done before I get to remodeling upstairs. The kinda plan is a large suite with bath, one small bedroom, and a large game room. Any way, I'm off to go shopping, my most funest thing to do in all the whole wide world. Yeh Thats Right, You Heard It From Me, Micky McShop.

Well folks, I spent some time trying to get this darn picture turned right side up, and while working at that, along popped up this pencil and a brush, so I did some scribblin, hope you don't mind.
Give me some time ,I'll figure the sideways thing out!!!

Bic made this for the Cape house kitchen over head light, we couldn't leave it!

What a Peach !

Before the peach blight of the late 1920's, our little old 8 acres was part of a 375 acre peach orchard along the Clinch River. The blight and then the deppression, put a big hurt on this region.

Old mail plane restored at Kimball's. I only made two pieces that went on that plane. where the crossed wires of the wings intersect, theres these pieces of wood that tie all the wires together and keeps them from vibrating. Bullet shaped.

Nothing like it the world when your in the southern lattitudes on a midnight watch by yourself,no moon and are totally in awe of the stars so bright, that come right up from the horizon, and then, Whap! right up the side of the head by one of these buggers. Nothing like it in the world, you had to be there!

The Place...New Hampshire....Picture The Scene

In that back yard thru the trees, many years ago stood a young man in a white tuxedo with a blue ruffled shirt. A weary traveling man was also there in a blue tuxedo. The bride was so beautiful in her wedding gown, that was made by her mother. Children growing up!!

Reading Rags in Mics Boom-Boom Room.

I guess this would be the one on the cusp of,.. to resubscribe or not. It used to be an almost all racer type mag, and state of the art sailing, but since Latts+Atts came out, theres been more for the cruiser.

This is my favorite [remember Sunny,..it's my favorite!] mag since I first read it. West coast biker guy, 300 lbs, goes world cruising for ten years and comes back to southern California and starts this mag. Huge success. Gets down to the nitty-gritty of living onboard, and cruising, or sitting at the dock. No fluffed up articles, just real stories from real sailors.

Nothing but wood. Been getting this pretty much from the beginning too. The rebirth of so many vessels, every one built with the hands of man. A wooden boat is truly a piece of art. Go inside one, and look closely!

A shame it only comes 6 times a year.

If a guy or a gal wanted to really know how man deals with the sea.....ahh bla bla bla ....PLAIN AND SIMPLE... GREAT BOOK

First time I read this book, [ 3 or4 and if I had it in my hand I'd read it again]
I paused at the last page thinking, not enough! I'd been reading it since the late morning, and it was now almost sleepy time. I went to page one and read the first few chapters again. GREAT BOOK

East Tennessee Mountains...Late 1800's

In this valley, they liked to cantilever their barns so the cattle could have shelter while feeding. I guess the figuring was two men, go on out, and fill'em a wagon 'a hay and bring it on in that middle hole, and that would let the two men pitch out, that wagon of hay into the lofts, and hurry on out to get that wagon full again. After all,....it was a "Hay Day"

This little cantilevered thing is a corn- crib, and all I know about that, is they put corn in it !!!

Wooden Hinge On That Crib Door

That corn eventually makes it to the grist mill and gets mashed into something that them hard working son'sabitches could eat!!!

Early settlers had to have , a blacksmith.

A beautiful flat valley in the midst of the southern Appalachian Mtns.

Pre 1800.... the Cherokee just passed thru. Hunter, gatherers, you know!

During 1800's... White man settled in with no problems from the Cherokee.

After 1830 ish, white man just kicked em all out of the whole south east. No Problem!!

Them white folk, were pretty clever ehh?

It would be to much text for me right now
to explain the usefulness of this design, we'll do that later.
