Schooner; Two or more masts, to keep it simple we'll only talk 2 masted.
Main mast and mizzen mast- the main will always be aft, the mizzen forward.
the mizzen is almost always shorter than the main exept when they are equal,
you just have a foremast and a mainmast, no mizzen. A lot of people don't know
that this type of schooner is called, a bald headed schooner.
Ketch; main mast always forward, the mizzen aft. The big thing in a ketch is the
mizzen is stepped [attached] forward of the rudder post. Not the tiller or wheel
but where the top of the rudder [post] comes thru the hull.
Yawl; same as a ketch exept the mizzen is stepped aft of the rudder post. mostly
little bitty masts with little sails.

Timberwind
A ways back, this vessel
was my job and home. As mate, the duty's were many, the food was beyond words, with all you could eat anytime you could make it to the gally. When the 20 guests were on board, that wasn't often. The food was the same every week, every day, except Wednesday or Thursday when we would plan to buy locally, fresh lobster for all the guests and pick an isolated island to have a little, shore party. The reason for the two days depended on the weather. No engine in this boat! No winches, just blocks and tackle. You pulled on lines all day, as your hands turn to leather. Even the cooks stove was fueled with wood, which we loaded on board every week.

Timberwind's Foredeck
Thats a double drum manual windlass, we mostly got the guests to do the hard part, we'd just flake the chain as you see this guy doing and yell, come on you can do it, keep pumping, just a little more, keep going, little more. You had to keep the old guys away from this job.
Now if you look just to the left and forward of that left drum, theres a blue hatch on the deck. That was my bunk. When you lifted the hatch and dropped in, the deck was about chest high. I'd sqwat down and have to move forward around the sampson post and crawl into my bunk that was on the starboard side. It was heaven! Just barely enough room to turn on your side, total blackness, at anchor every sound the chain made roared though my bunk and the best part was on the bulkhead next to my head that seperated the foc'sle from the main saloon was a ships clock that rang all bells every 4 hours. Didn't take long to learn telling time by the bells.
That berth, was my favorite place in the world after a day of sailing[working] on Timberwind. Two months in that berth changed my coarse for the next 15 years.

This Just Came This Morning
Meet a buddy of ours from Florida, Caleb. We've known him since we moved to Tavares. His Grandma built our barn. Well as you can see, Caleb's uncle likes to hunt gators or anything else for that mater. In his new home they have a full sized stuffed 12 ft gator welcoming you in as you come in the front door. Maybe this will be his new roomate. Way to go Whit! Don't forget to click on this pic.

We got the kitchen windows
in yesterday. Yeh, a clear
view out to the front.
That also completes the
front and sides of the house.
One room left on the main
floor, the living room. I can
see the end.
My next plan, is to pull all
cellar lighting wire out.
And start insulating the floor.

Ill also get some staging set up, just not sure which project to hit first. I think the Portico and front gutters.

Back To Windows
OK I've been trying to upload some pics of windows that today I worked on. The computer or Blogger world is thwarting my efforts to post these pics. Now some of you might believe there's Umpalumpas that are laughing in the background, HeHeHeHe. No No No No, I'm darn sure its a mutated version of the little critters who used to make havock in the telephone lines back in the early 1970s. They are sly, they are ugly beyond your imagination, and God only knows what they have mutated to. Yes, I'm talking, Ooglucks. Big fat body and head thats all melded into a shape that looks like the crack of someones butt. And those two skinny little stick feet with three long toes. Arhhh. They make my skin crawl as if scabies were attacking. Itch, Itch, Itch, Can't you just feel it?
Nottingham Deck
Now I'm up here. You must read the bottom text first to know what I'm doing up here. WWW TTT FFF
Lets text here, well OK what can I do about it, NaDa
I tried to post a pic of the pond that you overlook from this deck but the Ooglucks won't let me Aghhhh. Help Me

I'm freaking out cause the text I'm typing here won't go any where but here.
Damn Ooglucks are driving me wacko!

Relax, Take a Break
Fresh Water Morning in New HampshireAt the B+C Pad.
Twas a very nice stay by the lake.At the B+C Pad.
Thank You Very Much
Cape CodThe infamous deck that got Bic+I to anchor in Quissett Harbour after cruising in the Florida Keys. We stayed for 8 years! Back then I had to tell my cousin, that I could'nt build her a deck, because there was nothing to attach the deck to. So I started a-digging etc. Many, many changes have taken place since then.
Thanks cous. for a most relaxing part of a vacation.
Quissett Harbour Morning Buzzards Bay, Cape CodThere's Rick heading out to collect mooring fees in the ever faithfull "Ticker"
And look at the four 12 1/2 Herrshoff Designs that Bic used to varnish twice a year. And there were many more than that, that she did.
Man, we had a nice stay in Quissett. I wish I took more pics this trip.
Thankyou, Rick, Weatherly, Bruce and all the boatyard.

New Lawn

After driving all day in the rain on Thursday,we got as far as PA Bunny Land. I'm not sure exactly what town
Bunny Land is in, but I know the general area. We've tried both Motel-6's in Harisburg and find there not quite to our liking, so a little further towards Hagerstown, MaryLand we found a decent stay in
Motel-6 for cheap dollars. The next day south on 81
was a beautiful drive. We arrived home around five,
and after the unpack I had time to drag a thatcher around with the Poulin and get my front nonlawn
ready for seed. Saturday was fertilizer and seed, and raking and watering, and then water and more water, and today I'll water again. This pic is first thing this
morning. It's a, Pic-of-Page Park.

Sea Doo Dog Doo
You'll have to wait to see the Dog Doo.
Luca took to the Sea Doo, like a dog should do, when told to.
The plan today is to go play with a big [not really so big] orange Kioti.
Going earth moving at the Shores of Swains.

The North Country
Activity is heating up here at the house on the lake. Wedding on Sat. and looks like the weather will hold good. It's not great for water activitys, they had a not so hot Aug. so the water has chilled. we'll be lucky to see 80 degrees on Fri.
At the moment I'm charging batterys for the Sea Doo's cause I got to get on the lake. Gonna try to get Luca on with me. That should be a challenge.
The Bondo Shack has notified me that it's now back in space. Hello Frankie. Great pics and interesting looking neighbors. Sure would like to come visit!
Bic-n-I will head south to Cape Cod Fish on Sunday as the temps. are expected to drop even further, down in the high 60s with the coastal breeze and a hurricane on the way, should be great! No doubt we'll be on our way home soon.
Later.
